Before We Say I do by author Emerald Barnes Guest Post : the theme of Forgiveness

Today I am so happy to have best selling author of Entertaining Angels author Emerald Barnes.   Now today she will be discussing the theme on forgiveness in her new short story book out now called Before We Say I do.

My Entertaining Angels series deals with various messages within each book, along with being for entertainment. I feel like sometimes we need to hear a certain message, even if it is something simple. Before We Say I Do was written because, well, I couldn’t give up Mads and Chase just yet. I loved them, and I wanted more of their story. Not to mention, there were unanswered questions within them. For example, what happened with Chase’s dad? That’s what I wanted to see more of so I wrote about their wedding, but I also wrote about how Chase was dealing with unforgiveness regarding his father. Chase didn’t even realize that he hadn’t forgiven his father completely, and he has to come face to face with it in Before We Say I Do.

There’s a verse in the Bible (Matthew 6:15) that states: “But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” This is one of those verses that sometimes gets overlooked because we don’t want to think about God not forgiving us for making a mistake. But it’s also important to remember. God wants us to forgive because He forgives us.

To me, it was about showing that God’s love has to be the love we share to others. If God loves us enough to forgive us our sins and mistakes, we should love others enough to do the same. But it’s not easy, and that’s what makes us so human.

We’re human, and we’re going to make mistakes. We’re going to hold grudges, and we’re going to harbor unforgiveness. But, we also have to learn how to forgive.

I dealt with something like this before. I’ve dealt with not forgiving someone, even when I thought I had, but it turns out, I never did. I never allowed myself to forgive them because of the mean and hateful things that were said to me and my family. It was very similar with Chase. He couldn’t forgive his dad for walking out on him and his mom. Chase couldn’t find it in his heart to forgive, but God sent an angel, Zach, to show Chase that it was better for him to forgive than to harbor this resentment for his father.

In whatever we do, we ought to learn to forgive. If not for that other person, for us. Spending so much time in unforgiveness only hurts us in the end. You end up fearful of the future, resenting that person, and of course, God can’t forgive you until you learn to forgive.

This is what Before We Say I Do is about. Learning to forgive isn’t easy, but it’s important.

Also, it’s just a fun read! I mean, it’s Mads and Chase! They’re probably the cutest couple I’ve ever made up! I really hope that you enjoy it when you read it.
