Blog Hop: The Next Big Thing with Guest Author Barbie Herrera

So, just what is This Next Big Thing New Years Blog Hop? Most obviously, it is a blog hop. A chance to learn about the work of independent authors (in this case, me) at one blog while being provided a few links to the blogs of others who will, in turn, next week provide readers with a chance to learn about their work and find a few more links to even more authors. And so on. An author’s leap frog.
And so, the way I see it, This Next Big Thing New Years Blog Hop is about us. WE, the independent authors of the world, are are out there waiting for readers to discover our books in This New Year. This sort of self-promotional chain mail is our opportunity to both toot our own horns, share our achievements, and then pass the torch on to 5 other authors to give them the same luxury.
I was tagged for this blog hop by Sylvia Stein, who has my gratitude. She not only tagged me, but is letting me use her blog to share my information. Sylvia, is an upcoming author you can find her on twitter @sylvia_stein07  Check her out.https://ssteinwriting.wordpress.com http://www.facebook.com/SylWriter07.

Now without further ado here I go….

THE NEXT BIG THING NEW YEARS BLOG HOP QUESTIONS

1: What is the working title of your book?

“Portrait of Our Marriage”

Memoirs of Love, Family, the Internet, and Obsession

2: Where did the idea come from for the book?

Years ago I was watching The Oprah Show on TV. The episode dealt with men addicted to porn. That evening I had a dream that was almost like watching a movie. It was a story told from a woman’s point of view. She was reviewing pictures from her past. Lost in the memories, she revisited events throughout her life, and was reminded how her husbands, once mere interest in porn had become an obsession.

3: What genre does your book fall under?

Adult fiction, women’s fiction, and reality romance. It is a romance novel but not the typical one with the fairytale romance and formatted layout, so I call it reality romance since it is more true to life and deals with real and timely issues.

4: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

For the husband, Brett, I am stuck, liking Gerald Butler, Joe Manganiello, or Tom Cruise for the role. For Nicky, the wife, I’m not sure and won’t guess. I really don’t want to influence the reader on that choice. I want the reader to feel like they are Nicky and to be able to put themselves in her place. I would cast Jennifer Coolidge as Gina, and Sharon Lawrence as Jan. Greg Germann, would play Zach. I’ll leave the rest of the characters to be cast by the readers imagination.
5: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

The story of one woman’s fun, romantic, sexy, life like, intense, journey, living with her husbands escalating obsession with porn, boils down to love versus addiction.

6: Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

My book was self-published because of time. I believe my story is very relevant to issues many are dealing with today. I didn’t want to wait another two or three years hoping for acceptance from established publishing agencies.

7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Originally I began working on the story as a screenplay and I worked on that for about six months before setting it aside. Later when I picked it back up and decided to tell the story in book format, it took me almost two years.

8: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I’ve been told by others that my writing and this book reminds them of books by authors: Anne Lamott, Joyce Carol Oates, and Jodi Picoult.
9: Who or What inspired you to write this book?

Initially I was inspired by the episode on The Oprah Show and the dream I had. Later, I was inspired by the 8 women whose input helped me put a realistic feel to what wives actually may go through when faced with porn addiction.

10: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

I believe it is an entertaining, romantic, passionate, and dramatically intense story. It is an adult read that takes the reader behind forbidden closed doors. More than anything my book deals with an issue that is very today. An issue that many still do not talk about and many continue to hide and deny. It is not a lecture about who is right or wrong but a story of one couples life. I hope those of you who enjoy reading will give this story a chance and take the journey.
